NCMC expanding scholarship support for health care Fast Track programs

North Central Michigan College is expanding scholarship support for its Fast Track health care programs in 2026.

According to a community announcement, the expansion is aimed at filling critical health care vacancies across Northern Michigan. More than $60,000 in scholarship support will be available in 2026, with funds ready for Fast Track courses beginning in January and February.

The scholarships will support students enrolling in programs such as dental assisting, certified clinical medical assistant, certified nursing assistant and phlebotomy technician. Additional allied health offerings will be added as schedules are finalized. Scholarship awards may be applied to tuition and required books, with qualifying students eligible to receive up to 75% of their tuition covered.

Workforce shortages persist

School officials said Northern Michigan employers continue to face shortages across clinical, long-term care and emergency response roles. By expanding scholarship support for short-term training, North Central is aiming to accelerate regional workforce readiness while giving students an affordable way to build skills, earn credentials and move quickly into stable careers.

“I am excited to expand scholarship access for our Fast Track health care students,” Cassandra Hernandez, dean of Workforce and Continuing Education, said in the announcement. “These programs are designed for working adults and new learners who want a faster, affordable path into essential health careers that our communities urgently need.”

Prospective students are encouraged to explore 2026 Fast Track start dates and connect with the college to learn how scholarship support may apply to their program of interest. Scholarship awards are subject to availability and may vary based on donor guidelines and student need.

How to apply for scholarships

Students may register for Fast Track courses with a $20 nonrefundable administrative fee. Once registered, students will receive an email outlining available scholarship opportunities and next steps. Scholarship consideration requires completion of the NCMC Foundation Scholarship Application.
