SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Recently, KY3 News was contacted with concerns from a recent meeting held with providers within the CoxHealth Care System.
KY3 took those questions to CoxHealth about a potential hiring freeze, and the current status of the hospital system’s financials was asked to the public relations and marketing department of the hospital.
Chris Bryant with KY3 News asked CoxHealth: “I am hearing that CoxHealth is currently on a hiring freeze when it comes to medical providers for the clinics and hospitals. In addition, there were concerns that the hospital may currently be operating in the red, which is what sparked the hiring freeze. Can the hospital confirm or deny this, and if so, can we schedule an interview to discuss this matter?
CoxHealth said that they would provide the following statement, which said in full:
CoxHealth is focused on strategic growth in a dynamic health care environment:
We are entering a transformative era in healthcare, and as an industry, we are preparing for a period of disruption.
Nationally, costs continue to rise, and factors from insurance, pharmaceutical costs, government payers, and more are altering the landscape in which we operate.
At the same time, CoxHealth is ready to seize the opportunities that change brings. We are committed to adapting and thriving in this evolving landscape, and we are taking steps to be ahead of the curve.
We are working to modernize our capabilities and systems with investments in Epic and Workday, and advancing care with our Virtual Care Team, operating room expansion, surgical robotics, and more. We continue to advance care in the region through key collaborations in areas such as pediatrics and rehabilitation care.
We will invest in our people and our patients and focus on strategic growth that will position CoxHealth to thrive, no matter the environment.
As always, our leadership teams are strategically reviewing current open positions to ensure that we are focusing our efforts in patient care areas and that we continue to be well-resourced to serve our region.
Our strong financial position is a testament to years of forward-thinking leadership, enabling us to serve our region with confidence and excellence.
We know that health care is in the crosshairs for disruption – and CoxHealth is well-positioned to turn challenges into opportunities.
We will continue to monitor the national health care environment. And we will work diligently and creatively on our own efficiency, on improving affordability and access for our patients, and ensuring that CoxHealth remains the premier place to work and receive care in the region.
KY3 responded with direct follow-up questions for CoxHealth, KY3’s Chris Bryant’s questions, and the responses from CoxHealth are as follows:

Reporter Chris Bryant: In addition, how are you asking providers to help as the conditions continue to change? Are you asking providers to spend less time with patients?
CoxHealth: Our providers will continue providing care and engaging with patients as they always have.
We serve a large area, and we know that access to care is a top priority for patients. Our providers are exceptional partners in providing that access, and we will continue to increase access to care to provide the best service for our patients.
Patient care is always our top priority, and our physicians and providers are fully engaged in CoxHealth’s commitment to strategic growth.
Reporter Chris Bryant: Are you currently expected to cut any current positions within the system as a way to help with the current concerns?

CoxHealth is no exception. Health care is a dynamic industry, and we are continuously evaluating how to best utilize our resources, including our workforce.
